DP Kithure Kindiki hails Ruto, Raila cooperation as good for the country

Ruto and Odinga officially signed the memorandum of understanding at KICC in Nairobi, outlining the areas of cooperation between their parties.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has hailed the working agreement between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying their decision to work together will bring stability and development to the country.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Friday, Kindiki commended the two leaders for setting aside their differences for the benefit of Kenyans. He said their unity reflects true leadership and a commitment to national progress.

“I am a proud Kenyan to see what is happening here today because, as other speakers have said, courageous decisions are made by courageous people,” Kindiki said.
“And therefore, our coming here to witness this decision is a testament that the future of Kenya looks great courtesy of the decisions that the two of you have made,” he added.
The Deputy President stated that uniting political forces for the common good is a rare but necessary act of leadership. He argued that the nation stands to benefit when leaders prioritise collective progress over personal ambitions.
“If you were individualistic and selfish, you would have chosen to exercise your muscles one against the other on opposite sides of politics and, in the process, you may have succeeded in undercutting one another. But in the process, you would have succeeded a great deal in undermining one another on the development of our country,” he said.
The DP noted that strong leaders think about the nation, while weak leaders focus on division.
He insisted that the deal between Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was a step toward a more united Kenya.
Key agreements
Ruto and Odinga officially signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) at KICC, outlining the areas of cooperation between their parties.
The agreement prioritises the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which addresses key national concerns such as youth unemployment and the two-thirds gender rule.
The two leaders also agreed on the need to promote inclusivity, ensuring that all Kenyans, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities in public appointments. The MoU acknowledges that inclusivity is essential for national cohesion and economic prosperity.
Another key point in the agreement is the protection of devolution. Ruto and Odinga committed to safeguarding county governments by ensuring that they receive their rightful share of resources on time.
They emphasised that devolution is a critical pillar of governance that must be strengthened, not undermined.
The pact also focuses on leadership and integrity, with both leaders agreeing to promote accountability in government.
They highlighted the need to curb excessive displays of wealth by public officials and establish clear legal frameworks to address conflicts of interest.
In addition, Ruto and Raila pledged to uphold the rule of law and constitutionalism, particularly in matters concerning the right to peaceful assembly. The agreement calls for the compensation of victims of past human rights violations and an audit of the country’s national debt to ensure accountability in borrowing and spending.
The two leaders also vowed to intensify the fight against corruption and eliminate the wastage of public resources. They underscored the importance of efficient government operations, saying public funds must be used effectively for the benefit of all citizens.
To ensure the success of this new partnership, Ruto and Raila agreed to hold regular consultations and seek expert opinions on pressing national issues.
The MoU outlines a framework for continued dialogue and collaboration between the two political parties.
