Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba expelled from UDA over alleged disloyalty

Hassan Omar further stated that Orwoba will no longer be entitled to any privileges reserved for UDA members and is no longer authorised to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity.

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has been expelled from President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), with immediate effect.

The resolution was announced in a statement by the party's Secretary General Hassan Omar following a UDA National Executive Meeting (NEC) in Nairobi on Monday.

"Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party's Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Senator Gloria Orobwa be expelled from the membership of the UDA Party with Immediate effect," the statement reads.

"The NEC of the Party, during its meeting, adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee's decision. Accordingly, Senator Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party."

Hassan Omar further stated that Orwoba will no longer be entitled to any privileges reserved for UDA members and is no longer authorised to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity. In addition, UDA has formally notified Senate Speaker Amason Kingi about the decision, requesting the initiation of Orwoba's removal as a nominated senator.

"Additionally, the Party has notified the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (1E11C) of her expulsion," the statement reads.

UDA has since settled on Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi to replace Orwoba in the Senate.

"In accordance with the Party's Nomination Rules and based on the Party list submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Elections, the Party has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to fill the resulting vacancy."

"While the UDA Party upholds the values of freedom of expression and association as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010, fidelity and Loyalty to Party ideals are fundamental to its constitution and to further consolidate our multiparty politics by strengthening political parties."

Orwoba is accused of violating the party's code of conduct by being part of the delegation that welcomed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i back to Kenya on April 22. She also attended his official homecoming in Kisii on May 2. The disciplinary case was initiated by complaints from UDA members, Festus Omwamba and Henry Muriithi.

Orwoba is also accused of publicly criticising President Ruto's administration, specifically regarding the labour mobility programme, during a radio interview on April 22, 2025.

"Your participation and utterances in the stated events clearly demonstrate instances and proof of allegiance to another political movement, conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the UDA Party, which nominated you to the office and position of Senator in the Senate," UDA's Disciplinary Committee said in a recent statement.
