Orange Democratic Party Leader Raila Odinga, speaking in Mombasa amidst protests by women's groups, called for stronger measures to protect women from violence. Labeling gender violence " a greater threat to security in our country," he demanded its forceful condemnation and urged society to guarantee women's freedom and security.

Across the country, women took to the streets. In Mombasa, peaceful demonstrators expressed solidarity with victims of femicide and urged President Ruto and relevant authorities to intervene. They highlighted the unsolved murder of a female sex worker whose body was found mutilated last year, demanding justice and action.
Similar protests unfolded in Kilifi County, led by Deputy Governor Flora Chibule. Representatives from various women's groups, like Ujamaa Centre and Haki Africa, documented instances of femicide and lamented the lack of progress in investigations and prosecutions. They called for effective laws, policies, and media engagement to curb these alarming cases and name and shame the perpetrators.
