Ruto, Museveni in Zanzibar for talks with Samia

Their meeting coincided with that of March 14, 1996, when Presidents Moi, Museveni and Mkapa laid the foundation for EAC.

President William Ruto and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni convened with their Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu in Zanzibar on Thursday evening.

According to State House Tanzania, the three leaders discussed regional integration, particularly the ongoing process of gathering public opinions on an East African Community political confederation.

Ruto, who traveled to Zanzibar from Kisumu, emphasised in a tweet, "As leaders among the eight EAC partner states, we reaffirm our unwavering support for further regional integration and prosperity, focusing on fast-tracking the federation."

He added that their meeting coincided with that of March 14, 1996, when Presidents Daniel Arap Moi, Yoweri Museveni and Benjamin Mkapa laid the foundation for East African Cooperation.
