KeNHA announces closure of North Horr-Kalacha road in Marsabit due to heavy rains

KeNHA at the same time issued a flooding alert at the Mororo Area on the Nairobi - Garissa Road due to the rising waters at Tana River Bridge.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the North Horr-Kalacha (B75) Road in Marsabit County due to heavy rains.

In a statement issued on Friday, KeNHA said the rains experienced in the county caused severe flooding, leading to the impassable condition of the highway.

"We advise motorists to utilise alternative routes until the rains subside to ensure everybody's safety," KeNHA stated.

The authority further said traffic flow would only resume after a comprehensive assessment and possible reinstatement of any damaged sections of the road, as part of the ongoing Routine Maintenance and Spot Improvement Contract recently awarded.

KeNHA at the same time issued a flooding alert at the Mororo Area on the Nairobi - Garissa Road due to the rising waters at Tana River Bridge.

"The persisting rainfall portends further water rise which could affect other previously damaged road sections. Motorists are, therefore, urged to exercise caution as they approach Madogo, Konapunda, and Mororo sections of the A3 Road to Garissa," read the statement.

KeNHA said the contractor is on standby at the site to address any issues as they monitor the situation closely to ensure road accessibility.

During the November rains last year, the said section was completely written off after the tarmacked road was washed away.
