Ethiopian airlines to purchase a record number of Boeing planes

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's aviation giant, has made a historic announcement of a substantial order for up to 67 Boeing planes, marking the largest-ever aircraft purchase in African history. The agreement, signed at the Dubai Airshow, includes 11 787 Dreamliners and 20 737 MAX airplanes.

The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mesfin Tasew, stated, “we are pleased to confirm that Ethiopian Airlines has finalised a deal with Boeing to secure a firm order for 31 state-of-the-art airplanes, with an option for an additional 36 jets.”

Ethiopian's order encompasses the 787-9 Dreamliner variant, known for a 25 per cent reduction in fuel use and emissions compared to its predecessors, and the 737-8 model, offering a 20 per cent decrease in fuel consumption and emissions, along with a 50 per cent smaller noise footprint. Both aircraft families prioritize enhanced environmental performance and passenger comfort.
Mesfin highlighted, "This order aligns with our growth plan and Vision 2035 Strategy, facilitating the modernization and expansion of our fleet. It also solidifies our longstanding and exemplary business partnership with Boeing."
