Motorists using Waiyaki Way should brace for traffic disruptions over the next three months after authorities announced a partial closure of the Nakuru-bound carriageway to facilitate footbridge construction works.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the affected section stretches from Karuna Close to Westlands Roundabout. The partial closure will take effect on June 25 and remain in place until September 25, 2026.

“This closure is to allow for extension works on the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo-Gaucho-Quickmart Westlands footbridge,” the notice reads.

The works are expected to cause traffic disruptions due to lane restrictions along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors. Motorists should anticipate delays and slower movement, particularly during peak hours.

While KeNHA did not provide alternative routes, it urged road users to exercise caution, follow temporary traffic signs and comply with traffic management measures. The authority also called on motorists to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to manage traffic flow.

KeNHA and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) have been carrying out a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving road safety, easing traffic congestion and enhancing pedestrian mobility.

Earlier this month, KURA announced planned traffic disruptions on Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road, Jakaya Kikwete Road, Haile Selassie Avenue and Ngong Road to facilitate infrastructure works. The roads are set for partial closures between June 12, 2026, and February 12, 2027.

KURA also said a section of Haile Selassie Avenue would be partially closed for four months, from June 12 to October 12, 2026, to allow for ongoing upgrades.
