Somali national lands key role in IGAD
A former President of HirShabelle Regional State and President Hassan Sheikh Mahamud’s special envoy for the stabilisation and protection of civilians, Mohamed Abdi Ware has a rich background.
Somalia’s Mohamed Abdi Ware was officially announced today as the new IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary, a decision ratified during yesterday’s IGAD leaders assembly in Djibouti.
Mohamed said, “It is with humility I accept my appointment and… excited to join a dynamic team of professionals under the leadership of [IGAD Executive Secretary] Dr Workneh.”

Assigned to lead the IGAD Programming Team, Mohamed will oversee diverse responsibilities, spanning Peace and Security, Climate Mitigation, Regional Economic and Social Development, and Integration, as well as Youth and Women Empowerment to enhance incomes and livelihoods.
Mohamed is committed to "making a difference in the lives of IGAD citizens" and plans to initiate engagement with technical ministries of member states and international partners to actualize this commitment.
Mohamed Abdi Ware flanked by the leadership of the Heritage Institute in Djibouti shortly after his appointment as IGAD’s Deputy Executive Secretary.
Somalia’s Information Minister, Daud Aweis, commended Mohamed’s appointment, stating it "elevates Somalia’s influence within the region and internationally, marking a key diplomatic achievement for the Federal Government."
