The officers said they had made their routine visit to the cells with the canteen manager to serve the inmates breakfast when they discovered the suspects had escaped.

The key suspect in the Kware murders Collins Jumaisi has escaped lawful police custody.

Police reports on Tuesday indicated that Jumaisi, who had been held at Gigiri Police Station, escaped alongside 12 Eritreans detained at the police station over staying in the country illegally.

The police report seen by The Eastleigh Voice bearing REF: OB 05/20/08/2024 indicated that the matter was reported by police officers Evans Kipkirui and Gerald Mutuku who were manning the cells.

The officers said they had made their routine visit to the cells with the canteen manager to serve the inmates breakfast when they discovered the suspects had escaped.

“The scene has been visited by sub-county police officer Gigiri who found out that the escape was granted through an opening on the wire mesh roof at the basking,” the police report read.

According to police, a manhunt has been launched for the fugitives.

Senior police officers led by acting Acting Police IG Gilbert Masengeli and DCI boss Amin Mohamed met on Tuesday at the Gigiri police station hours after the mysterious escape.

Jumaisi was first presented at the Kiambu law courts before the Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko who declined to handle the case.

The magistrate argued that the matter took place in Embakasi and ought to be handled by the Makadara law courts.

Confession

Jumaisi is reported to have confessed to having killed 42 women and disposed of their bodies in the dumpsite over the last two years, with the first victim being his wife, Imelda Judith Halenya.

“The suspect confessed to having lured, killed and disposed of 42 females from 2022 with the latest as recent as last Thursday, July 11. The suspect alleged his first victim was his wife whom he strangled to death before dismembering her body. From our interrogation, all his victims have been murdered in the same style. Our investigations are still ongoing” said DCI boss Mohamed Amin during the suspect’s apprehension.

So far, the mother-in-law of the suspect has recorded a statement with the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detailing how her daughter went missing in 2022.

Police also recovered several items from the suspect’s house including mobile phones, a handbag and female inner garments that will be used as evidence.

Following the controversy that surrounded the nature of killings at Kware Dumpsite, the government moved to conduct autopsies on the bodies.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor disclosed that the bodies discovered at the Kware dumpsite did not have bullet injuries, contradicting initial public speculation.

The pathologist stated that to assist in identifying the victims and piecing together the remains, DNA samples were to be taken.

Oduor regretted that the advanced state of decomposition of the bodies has posed significant challenges in the investigations.
