In a significant turn of events, Fatuma Abdullahi was sworn in today as the UDA nominated member of the Isiolo County Assembly, succeeding Kelvin Mbuthia. The move comes after the Meru High Court upheld the nullification of Mbuthia's nomination, following legal challenges initiated by UDA supporters.

UDA supporters, led by Burat MCA Nicholas Lorot, took legal action last year, alleging collusion between party top officials and electoral officials in the nomination process. They argued that Kelvin Mbuthia, the initial nominee and brother of former Laikipia Women Rep Kate Waruguru, was not a resident of Isiolo and was not a registered voter in the county.

The Isiolo Magistrate Court ruled in favor of the UDA supporters earlier this year, quashing Mbuthia's nomination. Subsequently, Mbuthia moved to the Meru High Court to challenge the ruling, but last week, the court upheld the decision made by the Isiolo Magistrate, directing that the seat be reallocated to Fatuma Abdullahi Hassan.

Supporters of Fatuma Hassan expressed joy and celebrated outside the Isiolo County Assembly as she officially assumed the role of the UDA nominated Member of County Assembly representing the minority. This development marks the resolution of a legal dispute surrounding the UDA nomination in Isiolo County and establishes Fatuma Abdullahi in her rightful position within the County Assembly.
