Somalia PM inaugurates regional football tournament in Mogadishu

Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Friday inaugurated the highly anticipated football tournament for Federal State Members and the Banadir region at the Mogadishu stadium.
The opening match featured a thrilling face-off between Hirshabelle and the Galmudug States, attracting a massive crowd of football enthusiasts.

During his speech at the opening event, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi emphasised the impact of football in fostering peace, harmony, and unity among the Somali population.
"Unity is not just a goal we strive for, but a powerful force that brings us together through the love of sports. Let us come together as fans, players, and supporters to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and create a brighter future for Somali sports," the PM said.
The opening match featured a match between Hirshabelle and the Galmudug States.
Recognising the pivotal role of sports in promoting positive community engagement, the PM commended the government security agencies for their tireless efforts in enhancing the capital's security.
The inauguration of the tournament marks a significant milestone in Somalia's sporting landscape, aiming to unite different regions through healthy competition.
Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Madale visited the Benadir regional football team and encouraged the players.
