In response to the dire threat posed by the surge of fall armyworm (FAW) and aphid pests wreaking havoc on crops in Banisa, Choroqo, Domal, and neighboring farms, the Mandera County Department of Crop Production, Harvesting, and Value Addition has launched a rapid and proactive response.
Chief Officer Mr. Hussein Abdirahman has led a team of agricultural experts to combat the agricultural crisis swiftly. The team has implemented a comprehensive treatment plan targeting affected farms, utilizing a strategic arsenal of agro-chemicals and specialized spray equipment.
Beyond immediate intervention, crucial informational sessions have been conducted for local farmers. These sessions provide hands-on demonstrations of proper chemical mixing techniques, emphasize the importance of self-protection during handling and spraying, and offer meticulous instruction on the correct utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Farmers have been equipped with both agrochemicals and essential PPEs, serving as a vital safeguard and empowering them to fortify their farms against potential future pest invasions.
Mr. Abdirahman highlighted that this swift and proactive initiative has been made possible through the unwavering support of the Mandera County Government. The government's commitment underscores a steadfast dedication to addressing food security challenges and uplifting the livelihoods of the county's residents.
The collaborative efforts of the Department of Crop Production, under Mr. Hussein Abdirahman's guidance, and the resolute backing of the County Government stand as a beacon of hope. They signal resilience against adversity and a unified resolve to protect the agricultural backbone of the region, ensuring farmers' long-term sustainability and success.
