While most of Kenya prepares for another week of moderate to heavy rains, residents of North-eastern and North-western Kenya can expect a period of dry weather, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department's (Met) latest statement.
Issued on Friday, the statement predicts continued rainfall in the southern half of the country from January 6th to 12th, 2024, offering little solace to regions already drenched by the persistent El Nino-induced downpours. Nairobi itself experienced heavy rains on Friday afternoon, highlighting the uneven nature of the current weather pattern.

For residents of the parched North-eastern and North-western counties, however, the forecast offers a glimpse of hope. The statement explicitly mentions a "generally dry" period for these regions, potentially providing relief to communities that were adversely affected by floods.
Met also issued a cautionary note for residents of the South Rift Valley and South-eastern lowlands, warning of the possibility of "isolated storms" in these areas. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and take necessary precautions.
