Government revives plans for construction of a new state lodge in West Pokot

The government on Saturday evaluated a proposed site for the construction of a new state lodge along the picturesque banks of Turkwel Gorge Dam in Riting, Endugh Ward, West Pokot County.

In a strategic move aimed at revitalising the long-neglected state lodge project in Turkwel, Governor Simon Kachapin played host to Interior PS Dr Raymond Omollo and President William Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet.

The project, with an estimated budget of Sh230 million, is designed to accommodate over 3,000 people during state events.

This initiative breathes fresh life into a dormant project, promising to infuse vigour into the region.

Governor Kachapin underscored the transformative potential of the project for the local community.

He emphasised that the state lodge could significantly alter the livelihoods of residents in the area.

Recognising the importance of community participation, Kachapin urged close collaboration with both the local community and those overseeing the lodge’s construction.

Interior PS Omollo outlined a series of complementary initiatives aimed at bolstering infrastructure and social amenities in the region.

Roads, electricity, and school expansion topped their priority list, signalling a comprehensive development agenda alongside the lodge’s construction.

The PS acknowledged the recent peaceful Christmas period in the region noting it to be a testament to efforts fostering harmony and progress in the area.

As his visit concluded, he revealed plans to commission several pivotal projects, reaffirming the commitment to uplift the community’s standard of living.

“The proposed state lodge symbolises not only progress but also catalyses socio-economic transformation. Its potential to breathe new life into the area and foster prosperity is palpable, promising a brighter future for all,” he said.
