Garissa County Assembly vetted Rakia Ibrahim on Thursday for the position of secretary to the County Public Service Board.
Garissa County Assembly vetted Rakia Ibrahim on Thursday for the position of secretary to the County Public Service Board. Her appointment, subject to assembly approval, aims to address human resources issues within the county.
If endorsed, she is expected to facilitate the recruitment of chief officers and other staff, a process delayed due to conflicts between Governor Nathif Jama and the board's chairperson, Ebla Sahal.
Rakia Ibrahim, an advocate and certified public secretary, appeared before the Committee on Appointments at the assembly. Abdi Idle, the County Assembly Speaker, mentioned that the nominee had submitted all necessary documentation for the committee's assessment.
"The committee diligently assessed her based on specific requirements laid out in section 58 (1) (c) and (3) (1) of the County Government Act," stated the speaker, who also chairs the Committee on Appointments. He added that the assembly would consider the committee's report during a special sitting on Friday.
The immediate secretary's term concluded with the board members. Currently, the county faces a lawsuit filed by over 3,000 former county staff who were terminated from their positions.
