Joy after Garissa man abducted last year reunites with his family

Musa said that Osman seemed scared even of relatives who came to see him after news of his return spread.
Osman Yussuf Gure, a resident of Nuno village, 40 km outskirts of Garissa town who went missing in February 2024 after he was abducted at his residence, was found alive after unknown people dropped him in the village Monday evening.
Relatives who celebrated the reunion said he had undergone mental and physical torture while at the hands of his abductors.

“He looks frail and mentally tortured,” said Musa Mohamed, a relative.
Musa said that Osman seemed scared even of relatives who came to see him after news of his return spread.
Sankuri Ward MCA Abdirahman Bor, a relative of Osman who had been vocal in agitating for his release, also said Osman seemed to have undergone physical and mental torture.
"We visited him this morning together with other members of the Garissa County Assembly with whom we planned to bring him to Garissa town for a medical check-up but he refused," he said.
The MCA condemned the manner Osman was mistreated, pointing an accusing finger at state agencies which he said acted with impunity and violated the rights of the innocent man without taking responsibility.
Osman’s elder brother Mohamed Yussuf expressed joy over his return. In a phone interview with The Eastleigh Voice, Mohamed said the family had been traumatised by Musa’s abduction.
"We are glad to meet him alive. We never thought he would be seen again. He was abducted by strangers and brought back by a stranger still unknown to us," he said.
He said his brother was not in a position to speak about his abductors due to mental torture and physical scars he bears as a result of brutal beatings.
