Residents and leaders unite to support new maternal health complex in Moyale
The project aims to transform maternal and child health services in the region, which currently faces significant challenges due to limited capacity and high mortality rates.
Moyale residents have come together to show their support for the upcoming construction of a new Mother and Child Complex at Moyale Level Four Hospital.
During a public participation engagement, residents and leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the project, which is funded by the World Bank.

The project aims to transform maternal and child health services in the region, which currently faces significant challenges due to limited capacity and high mortality rates.
Abdi Shakur, a community elder, hailed the project as a vital infrastructure that will serve the residents of Moyale and beyond.
He added that the project will attract many from neighbouring counties who lack such facilities, fostering regional growth.
A mother, Mama Shamshia, expressed hopes that the new complex will address the urgent need for better maternal health services.
She pointed out that Moyale Hospital handles over 200 deliveries each month, yet its current facilities are inadequate.
Many speakers emphasised that maternal mortality remains a serious concern, underscoring the need for the upcoming project that will save lives and improve health outcomes.

Project impact
Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali said the project will transform maternal and child health services in Moyale.
Simba Guleid, Coordinator of the North Eastern Development Initiative (NEDI), expressed optimism about the project, calling it a "game changer" once completed.
He explained that the project is part of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project.
"This project will have a profound impact on maternal and child health, positioning Moyale as a regional hub for health excellence," he said.
Eng. Paul Omondi, representing the Kenya National Highway Authority, expressed confidence in the quality of the upcoming complex and lauded the community for setting aside land for the project.
"The World Bank supported the project due to its potential to improve health outcomes, not only in Kenya but also for neighbouring Ethiopia and regional counties," he noted.
Omondi urged members of the public to continue supporting the project.
