Isiolo bandit attack leaves one dead, 100 cows stolen

The perpetrators, believed to be from a neighbouring county, raided the house around 10 p.m. before fleeing with the animals.

One person was shot dead and 100 cows were stolen, on Saturday night, in a bandit attack in Kambi Garba, Isiolo County.

The perpetrators, believed to be from a neighbouring county, raided the house around 10 p.m. before fleeing with the animals.

Police officers from various units were promptly mobilised following the event to chase the culprits who were claimed to have fled to Samburu County.

County police chief Moses Mutisya told the Eastleigh Voice that a team of officers from the General Service and Rapid Deployment Units, as well as regular police officers and reservists, were pursuing the offenders in an attempt to recapture the stolen animals.

The police chief said investigations were underway to determine how the offenders got over 10 km across the border into the county unnoticed, amid concerns that they may have been helped by area residents.

Police suspect the culprits had prior knowledge of the home, which housed numerous livestock herds.

"The investigations will also focus on identifying residents who may have provided the criminals with information, accommodated or helped them in the raid and escape," Mutisya said.

He urged citizens to provide critical information that will aid in the ongoing investigation.

Criminals from other counties have previously colluded with rogue residents, which security agencies have described as a hindrance to the region's efforts to eradicate cattle rustling.

In addition to directing the crooks, some of the rogue residents host and assist them in concealing the stolen livestock.
