World fifth tallest skyscraper set to be constructed in Oklahoma City, US

The council approved the rezoning application for the skyscraper on Tuesday, allowing for an "unlimited" height. The decision follows an initial approval from the city's planning commission in April, marking the final hurdle for the project.
A supertall skyscraper designed by a California-based architecture firm (AO) is set to be constructed in the United States after the Oklahoma City Council gave the green light.
The Architecture firm in Orange (AO), will construct the ‘Legends Tower’ which once completed, will be the tallest building in the country.
The council approved the rezoning application for the skyscraper on Tuesday, allowing for an "unlimited" height. The decision follows an initial approval from the city's planning commission in April, marking the final hurdle for the project.
The recent decision by Oklahoma City, a city comparable in size to Nairobi, to relax its restrictions on height limits and greenlight the construction of what is poised to become the tallest building in the U.S., underscores a significant shift in urban development policies aimed at transforming the cityscape and positioning it as a global destination.
According to the construction plans by AO and developer Matteson Capital, the Legend Tower will have a height of 1,907 feet (581 meters), surpassing New York's Freedom Tower, which stands at 1,776 feet (541 meters).
Previously, the proposed height for the tower was 1,750 feet (533 meters). However, it was later increased after the developer sought approval for the current height.
The tower will include three smaller towers reaching a height of 345 feet (105 meters).
According to Dezeen, Matteson Capital's owner Scot Matteson, had in March confirmed that the project had secured full financing and could start construction as early as June.
“AO and Matteson Capital eagerly anticipate the commencement of construction on the first buildings this fall, and subsequent groundbreaking on the Legends Tower, poised to be the tallest building in the U.S. Once completed, the impact of the Boardwalk at Bricktown will be significant, felt locally in Oklahoma City and resonating across the globe,” AO said.
The developers have envisioned that the skyscraper will transform Oklahoma City into a global destination.
“AO is delighted that the Oklahoma City Council has approved the development team's request for unlimited height for the Boardwalk at Bricktown. We are grateful that the City Council has embraced the vision of Matteson Capital and the entire design team to transform the city into a global destination,” AO said.
The tower will also become the tallest building in the U.S. and the fifth tallest in the world, marking a major milestone in Oklahoma City's urban development.
Managing partner of AO Rob Budetti told the Council that if the plan goes forward, work on the slender tower would be part of a second phase that would begin in about two years.
“The base and smaller towers would be built first, he said.
