The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) will interview 19 candidates on Saturday, February 15, 2025, to fill four vacant positions on the Malkia Strikers’ technical bench. The federation is seeking a new head coach, two assistant coaches, and a physical trainer ahead of the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championships in Thailand.
The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) will on Saturday, February 15, 2025, interview 19 candidates vying for four vacant positions on the Malkia Strikers’ technical bench.
KVF is looking to appoint a new head coach, two assistant coaches, and a physical trainer, with the immediate task of preparing the national women’s volleyball team for the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championships, scheduled for August 22 to September 7 in Thailand.
Kenya has been drawn in Pool G alongside Germany, Poland, and Vietnam, and will be aiming for a stronger performance after their early exit from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The head coach role has attracted five candidates, including former Malkia Strikers head coach Japheth Munala, who also manages KCB. Other contenders are Kenya Pipeline coach Geoffrey Omondi, former Malkia Strikers player Catherine Mabwi, Nairobi Water coach John Mwaniki, and KDF’s Elisha Aliwa.
Nine individuals are competing for the two assistant coach positions. Among them is Kenya Prisons coach Josp James Barasa, who previously served in the role during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Others in contention include David Muthui, Esther Chepkosgei, Esther Ouna, Jackline Barasa, Margaret Indakala, Marvin Tuikong, Samuel Mugata and Vernon Khayinga.
The physical trainer position, left vacant following the untimely passing of former Malkia Strikers player Janet Wanja, has attracted five applicants - Azenga MavisiEmmah Kondoa, Jeremiah Mukopi, Sally Wanjala and Tom Lagat.
