Triumph in Malaga: Kenyan runners Charles Mneria and Pamela Jepkosgei shine at 2023 marathon

In the women's race, 38-year-old Pamela Rotich Jepkosgei, the eldest participant on the entry list, showcased her enduring prowess by crossing the finish line first in 2:33.52.

Kenyan runners Charles Mneria and Pamela Rotich Jepkosgei have both claimed victories in their respective races at the 13th edition of the Malaga Marathon in Spain held on Sunday, December 10. 2023.

For 27-year-old Mneria, the journey to victory began as he led a group of nine athletes through the 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre marks in an impressive 15:03 and 30:03. Both these timings broke the existing course record (2:07.36) set two years prior. A patient Mneria made his move at the 33km mark, pulling away from the leading group and covering the remaining 9 kilometres alone. He crossed the finish line in a remarkable new Personal Best of 2:08.54.

Morocco's Abdelilah El Maimouni secured the second position with a time of 2:09.48, while Musa Kiprop Mitei claimed the third spot in 2:11.31. The fourth and fifth places were secured by Tanzania's Jonathan Akankwasa (2:12.34) and Kenya’s Evans Kimtai Kiprono (2:14:22), respectively.

In the women's race, 38-year-old Pamela Rotich Jepkosgei, the eldest participant on the entry list, showcased her enduring prowess by crossing the finish line first in 2:33.52. Lilia Fisikovici of Moldova secured the second position with a time of 2:34.12 as Sweden's Hanna Lindholm completed the podium with a time of 2:34.50.
