Kenya’s Patience Nyange appointed IGAD Executive Secretary Spokesperson
Speaking exclusively to The Eastleigh Voice, Nyange expressed her gratitude and commitment to serving in her new role.
Kenya’s Patience Nyange has been appointed Spokesperson of the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Her appointment takes effect in March 2024.

Speaking exclusively to The Eastleigh Voice, Nyange expressed her gratitude and commitment to serving in her new role.
"The appointment as the spokesperson for the IGAD Executive Secretary deeply honours and humbles me. It is with great enthusiasm and dedication that I accept this responsibility. I am eager to work closely with the Executive Secretary and the entire team at IGAD,” she said.
"IGAD plays a crucial role in promoting peace, security, and development in the region, and I am excited to contribute. I look forward to engaging with the media, partner organisations, and the public to enhance awareness and understanding of IGAD's work and its impact on the lives of people in the region.”
Rich experience
With nearly two decades of experience spanning media, communications, diplomacy, and international public relations, Nyange has created and accelerated brands' communication strategies and recognition.
Nyange's adeptness in crafting local and international communication strategies, innovation, and creativity, as well as her passion for politics, underscore her prowess in navigating the intricate landscape of global discourse.
Nyange's professional trajectory is marked by collaboration with esteemed entities such as local and international media houses and government and non-governmental organisations, among them the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC-Media Action), the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and the Association of Media Women in Kenya.
Her contributions have been instrumental in amplifying voices and advancing critical agendas, with a particular interest in advocacy work around gender equality and equity.
She has equally served on several boards, including the Media Council of Kenya, the Emerging Leaders Foundation, the Sustainable Development Forum Kenya and as a Delegate-at-Large representing Africa at the Global Alliance for Communications and PR Professionals.
A Chevening Scholar of 2019, Patience holds a Master's Degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication from Cardiff University, UK (Distinction).
She is also an alumnus of Daystar University in Kenya (BA in Mass Communication, 2006).
