A report recommending strategies to prevent violence and sustain peace in Kenya was presented to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki at Harambee House today. The Peace Building Architecture (PBA) panel, led by General (Rtd) Daniel Opande, delivered the "Review of Kenya's Peacebuilding Architecture" report, prepared by a team of peace experts appointed by the Interior Ministry.
The panel's task was to critically examine the mandates, capabilities, and processes for conflict prevention and peacebuilding within Kenya's formal and informal institutions.

Receiving the report, CS Kindiki emphasized the government's commitment to prioritizing peacebuilding as a primary intervention strategy to prevent violent conflicts and manage threats to peace and security. He announced plans to establish a robust early warning and response system, facilitating proactive and coordinated responses from local communities to the national level.
Kindiki expressed confidence that the report will not only guide the management of future threats but also address the root causes of violence in the country. The Interior Ministry further stated in a press release that they will utilize the report to review existing peacebuilding frameworks and integrate early warning mechanisms. This aims to build a coherent peacebuilding infrastructure at both national and sub-national levels.
"Peacebuilding will be structured to function and make decisions at the village and ward level before escalation to the national level," the Ministry declared.
The Institute for Peace in Africa (IPA) also issued a statement acknowledging the report as an opportunity to shed light on Kenya's diverse mechanisms for peacefully resolving conflicts and promoting social cohesion.
