Alliance Girls teacher sent on compulsory leave over sexual abuse allegations as TSC launches probe

This development follows mounting public pressure after a report by African Uncensored brought the allegations to light, sparking national outrage and prompting protests by former students and parents outside the school last week, demanding immediate action.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has sent a teacher at Alliance Girls High School on a 30-day compulsory leave over allegations of sexual abuse involving learners, as investigations into the matter begin.

In a letter dated July 15, 2025, as seen by The Eastleigh Voice, the commission cited serious breaches of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT), and the Code of Conduct and Ethics, accusing the teacher of engaging in professional misconduct while serving at the school.

“It has been alleged that you have breached Clause (a) of the Third Schedule to the Teachers Service Commission Act, Regulation 141 of the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT) and Clause 22 of the Code of Conduct and Ethics in that on various dates while stationed at Alliance Girls High School as a teacher, you engaged in acts and omissions that amount to professional misconduct,” the letter reads.

The teacher, Peter Albert Ayiro, is accused of immoral behaviour, including sexually abusing learners, engaging in sexual intercourse with them, and sexually harassing or flirting with students.

Independent investigation

Due to the nature of the allegations, the commission said the teacher would remain on leave to allow for an independent and impartial investigation.

“Due to the gravity of these allegations and the need to conduct independent and impartial investigations into the matter, and pursuant to the provisions of Regulation 136 of the CORT, the commission has decided to send you on compulsory leave for 30 days with effect from July 15, 2025,” the letter stated.

The TSC further stated that the teacher will continue to receive full salary and allowances during the 30-day leave and will be notified of the investigation outcome upon its conclusion.

The commission emphasised that all actions will adhere to due process as stipulated in its regulations.

Unacceptable

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok also weighed in, calling for the teacher’s arrest and prosecution, saying grooming students for sexual relationships is unacceptable. However, he noted that the Teachers Service Commission operates independently under the Constitution.

“That teacher is going to be punished and interdicted. We have talked to TSC and all other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested. No teacher has any business pursuing inappropriate relationships with learners. Any breach of trust will be met with swift disciplinary and legal action,” said PS Bitok.

“We are committed to upholding learner safety and dignity in all educational institutions … including not just Alliance Girls but every school in this country,” he added.

During their demonstration outside the school, a group of former students called for the teacher’s immediate interdiction.

“We are explicitly calling for the interdiction of the teacher in line with TSC disciplinary procedures, followed by a comprehensive and impartial investigation,” the alumni said.
