Gachagua: I've no problem with DP Kindiki, I'm focused on my own things

His remarks come weeks after Deputy President Kindiki also addressed their relationship, insisting that nothing has changed between them.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed any speculation of the existence of bad blood between him and his successor Kithure Kindiki, saying he has no issues with him.

Gachagua stated that he is currently focused on his own affairs and sees no need to comment on Kindiki's leadership.

"I don't want to talk about Kindiki. I am an elected leader; I cannot talk about an appointee. I have no problem with him. I am doing my own things," he said on Tuesday during an interview.

His remarks come weeks after Deputy President Kindiki also addressed their relationship, insisting that nothing has changed between them despite Gachagua's impeachment.

"Our relationship is the same as it was. We're good people, good friends," Kindiki said during a media roundtable in December 2024.

However, when asked about any lessons learned from Gachagua's tenure, Kindiki avoided making direct comparisons.

"Allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua. It is wrong to start comparing myself with the person who occupied this office," he said.

On the impeachment process that led to Gachagua's removal, Kindiki stated that all arms of government were involved and he saw no flaws in the procedure.

"If there were any issues, there is a clear constitutional process to address them," he noted.

Gachagua and Kindiki were both top contenders for the deputy presidency ahead of the 2022 general elections, with President William Ruto eventually picking Gachagua as his running mate while appointing Kindiki as the Interior Cabinet Secretary.

Following Gachagua's impeachment, Ruto nominated Kindiki to replace him, a decision later confirmed by the National Assembly and Senate before his swearing-in.
