ODM announces April dates for grassroots elections, opens applications

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has set dates for its grassroots elections, with voting scheduled to begin in early April.
The party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) chairperson, Emily Awita, on Thursday confirmed that sub-branch (Ward) elections will be held on April 7 at designated centres across all 47 counties. Branch (Constituency) elections will follow on April 9 in all 290 constituencies.

“Only delegates elected at the Polling Unit level will be eligible to participate as voters or candidates,” she said in a notice.
Additionally, delegates who have not paid the Sh100 fee for Polling Unit elections will not be allowed to take part in the sub-branch elections.
Those interested in vying for positions must submit their applications between March 20 and March 31, 2025, with the process available on the party’s official website and app.
A total of 77 officials will be elected nationwide across four committees: Mainstream, Women’s League, Youth League, and Disability League.
The available positions include Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer, Organising Secretary, Deputy Organising Secretary, Secretary for Women, Secretary for Youth, Secretary for Disability, and Special Interest Group Representative, among others.
Aspirants for sub-branch positions must pay Sh200, except for those vying for Chairperson, who will pay Sh500.
At the branch level, non-executive position candidates including Women, Youth, Disability, and Special Interest representatives will pay Sh500, while those running for executive positions will pay Sh1,000. Chairperson aspirants at this level will be required to pay Sh1,500.
Once voting concludes, the Presiding Officer will announce the results, upload them to the party app, and submit the results template to the Returning Officer.
Any members who wish to challenge the results will have 12 hours to file complaints via the app, with a fee of Sh15,000 for sub-branch disputes and Sh30,000 for branch-level complaints.
ODM has also advised its members to review party regulations and verify their membership details by dialling 483036#.
