Gachagua to launch new party, vows to unite Mt Kenya, challenge Ruto ahead of polls

Gachagua took aim at President Ruto, accusing him of forming smaller parties in an attempt to divide the Mt Kenya region's large voter basket ahead of the 2027 polls.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to launch a new political party this week, as he continues to expand his influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While he did not disclose the name of the party or the exact date of the launch, Gachagua emphasised that the new entity would serve as a unifying force for the Mt Kenya region.

"This week, I will unveil our political party, and we will throw a huge party when doing so. That will be our party," Gachagua said in Juja, Kiambu County, on Sunday.
Gachagua also took aim at President Ruto, accusing him of forming smaller parties in an attempt to divide the Mt Kenya region's large voter basket ahead of the 2027 polls.
"Ruto has planned smaller parties; he will try to have them come up with candidates so that he can divide our votes as the Mountain. You will not divide us," he said.
Gachagua expressed confidence that residents of Mt Kenya will rally behind his party and its eventual presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
"The people here know their party, and they will know their candidate eventually," he said.
Appeal to youth
While criticising the shortcomings of the ruling regime, Gachagua also urged Kenyan youth to register for national IDs and voter cards ahead of the upcoming polls, noting that Gen Z have the power to vote President Ruto out of office and elect a capable successor.
"The Gen Z will save this country," said the former DP who was impeached on October 8, 2024.
He added that the opposition's primary agenda isn't merely about removing Ruto from office but about implementing a comprehensive plan to address pressing national issues.
"The president is complaining that people are calling for his ouster when they don't have an agenda, but that is not our agenda. That's the agenda of Kenyans. All we are doing is aligning with what they are saying," said Gachagua.
"Kenyans believe that you need to vacate office for the economy to improve and for initiatives like the Social Health Authority to work and for corruption to end."
Gachagua also welcomed the Court of Appeal's Friday decision to overturn the constitution of the High Court bench, which allowed Prof Kithure Kindiki to succeed him, expressing enthusiasm that the move will pave the way for his impeachment case to be heard fairly.
