UDA to conduct repeat grassroots elections in Mombasa, Tana River on May 17

The announcement comes just four days after UDA officially opened the online registration portal for its Phase II Ward-level Grassroots Elections.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced a repeat of its grassroots elections in Mombasa and Tana River Counties, following a review of the initial exercise conducted in April.

In a notice issued by UDA's National Elections Board (NEB) Chairman Anthony Mwaura, the party said the fresh polls will take place on May 17, 2025, from 9 am to 3 pm, at designated polling centres across the two counties.

"The National Elections Board of UDA hereby issues a notice of repeat Grassroots Elections to all party members in Tana River and Mombasa counties," the notice reads.

"Following the review of the initial exercise, the National Elections Board has resolved to conduct a repeat of the Grassroots Elections on May 17, 2025."

UDA also urged members to participate in the repeat exercise, which is part of the political outfit's wider effort to strengthen internal party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

"All registered UDA members in the aforementioned polling centres are eligible to participate. Members are advised to carry original identification documents. We urge all members to participate actively and peacefully," said Mwaura.

In Garsen Central Ward, Tana River County, the repeat elections will be conducted at 10 polling stations. Additionally, the polls will take place across 17 polling centres in Garsen North Ward.

In Garsen South Ward, the elections will be held at 10 polling centres, while nine polling centres will host the polls in Garsen West Ward.

In Chewele Ward, Tana River County, elections will be conducted in four polling stations. Similarly, four polling stations in Hirimani Ward will also host the polls, while Madogo Ward polls will hold elections in five polling centres.

In Sala Ward, the polls will be held in five polling centres, while Kianakomba Ward will have elections in two polling stations. In Wayu Ward, the polls take place in three polling stations.

In Mombasa County, the repeat elections will be held in Mji wa Kale, Majengo, Tonoka and Port Reitz wards.

The announcement comes just four days after UDA officially opened the online registration portal for its Phase II Ward-level Grassroots Elections. The registration portal, Mwaura said, was opened on May 7 and will close on May 16.
