DCI arrests Murang'a MCA Grace Nduta over alleged staged abduction of Juja MP Koimburi

The DCI said the arrest followed social media reports about the alleged abduction of Wairimu herself, claims which the investigative agency has dismissed.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Kanyenya-ini MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu over her suspected involvement in the alleged staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.

In a statement on Thursday, the DCI said the arrest followed social media reports about the alleged abduction of Wairimu herself, claims which the investigative agency has dismissed.

“We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang’a County, was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi,” reads the statement.

According to DCI, Wairimu had earlier claimed she was attending church services and political rallies in Kangema on the day of Koimburi’s alleged abduction, May 25, 2025. However, the detectives said they have evidence placing her at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, where she allegedly spent the entire night with the Juja legislator.

The detectives are also seeking to continue holding three other individuals for 15 more days in connection with the incident, including Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairperson Peter Kiratu Mbaru, alongside David Macharia Gatana and Cirus Kieru Muhia.

According to a miscellaneous application filed in court, the DCI alleges that Koimburi was abducted from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha by the trio, who are said to be his close associates. However, the motive behind the purported abduction remains unclear.

Investigators argue that releasing the suspects at this stage could jeopardise ongoing inquiries, especially since the MP has not yet recorded a formal statement with the police.

Court documents further state, “…the allegations have since created panic, fear, and sharp political divisions across the country and in the concerned constituency, which is cosmopolitan in nature. This presents a threat to national peace and stability.”

Medical condition still uncertain

The DCI also revealed that Koimburi’s medical condition remains uncertain. According to family and friends, he is critically ill, and doctors have yet to issue a formal medical report.

Citing national security concerns, the DCI noted that Koimburi’s political affiliations further complicate the matter.

The legislator is a member of the newly launched Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is in opposition to the current administration. The political backdrop has allegedly intensified public interest and reactions, with potential for unrest.

Detectives also disclosed that Koimburi had evaded arrest on May 23, 2025, but later returned to his Mugutha residence.

The DCI said one of the suspects visited the MP and learned that he intended to go to court to recover his vehicle, which had been seized by police.

“The offence of kidnapping is serious under the Penal Code, and investigations are still underway,” the DCI said.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities seek to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the suspected staged abduction.
