Harrison Kombe secures direct ODM nomination for Magarini by-election
Political analysts say the November by-elections are likely to draw national attention as ODM seeks to maintain its stronghold in traditional regions.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has awarded Harrison Kombe a direct nomination to contest the Magarini parliamentary seat in Kilifi County for the November 27 by-election.
Emily Awita, chairperson of the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), said Kombe faced no competition during the nomination period, making primaries unnecessary. She confirmed that several other constituencies and wards also had unopposed aspirants.

“Note that Magarini Constituency and Fafi Ward candidates were awarded direct tickets by the party. In addition, Chewani, Kisa East, Purko, Angata Nanyokie and Naanam Wards also had unopposed aspirants,” Awita said at Chungwa House on Friday.
“We have therefore gathered here today to present them with their certificates as unopposed ODM candidates.”
Other aspirants receiving direct ODM nominations include Salimu Mohamed for Chewani Ward, Thomas Eshuya Oyolo for Kisa East, Daniel Naikuni for Purko, Letoluai Loisia for Angata Nanyokie, Feisal Gedi for Fafi Ward, and Mohammed Yussuf for Naanam.

Awita assured party members that nominations for seats with multiple applicants would be conducted fairly and transparently.
“For the remaining seats where there is more than one aspirant, I want to assure you that the party primaries will be conducted between September 24 and 27, 2025,” she said.
The by-elections follow the vacancies in Ugunja and Kasipul parliamentary seats.
The Ugunja seat became vacant after former MP Opiyo Wandayi was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum in President Ruto’s recent Cabinet reshuffle, while Kasipul fell vacant after MP Ongondo Were was fatally shot in late April in Nairobi.
