“I promise you before this congregation and God that I will not let you down,” he said, stressing his commitment to support the President in his vision for the nation.
Kindiki's swearing-in ceremony, attended by dignitaries, family, and friends who gathered to witness this momentous occasion, marked a significant milestone in his political journey.
Reflecting on nearly two decades of mentorship from President Ruto, Kindiki said he had picked great lessons from his boss.
“Nothing in the political space has helped me to pick up lessons more than the years that I have walked and served around you,” he said.
The Deputy President recognised the importance of the institutions that have facilitated his rise to this prominent role.
Democratic processes
“What has happened in the last few weeks is a testament to the maturity of our democracy,” he noted, emphasising the functionality of Kenya’s democratic processes.
Kindiki also thanked those who have contributed to this journey, acknowledging the sacrifices made by many to uphold the nation’s constitutional order.
He also paid tribute to the architects of Kenya's freedom and democracy.
“I am grateful to those who fought for this Constitution, and I am grateful to all heroes of our country in the past and in the present,” the DP said.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Kindiki said he was born 52 years ago in one of the remotest parts of Kenya.
His presence as Deputy President is a testament to the opportunities that Kenya offers to all its citizens, he said.
“Kenya is the land and homeland of possibilities. There is no reason going forward why any person from anywhere, from whatever community or creed, should not aspire to become anything in our country,” he added.
In a moment of introspection, Kindiki acknowledged the influence of his family in shaping his character.
“I want to pay tribute to four people who have made huge sacrifices, especially in the 14 years or so I have been in politics,” he said.
He specifically recognised his wife, Dr Joyce Kithure, for her unwavering support throughout his political journey.
As he assumed his new responsibilities, Kindiki expressed his commitment to work alongside President Ruto to advance the nation.
“Your Excellency, as you lead us into the transformation of our country in the years ahead, I want to commit to support and assist you,” he affirmed.
He noted the importance of collaboration among government officials to realise a more inclusive, democratic, and transformed Kenya.
“Together with the other colleagues in government, I will strive for a Kenya that has even greater opportunities,” Kindiki said, setting an ambitious tone for his tenure.
Kindiki concluded his address by reflecting on the value of the oath he had just taken.
“I have reflected on the words of the oath of office. I want to commit to you that I will serve you and provide you with the assistance and support you require to take this country to the next level,” he stated.
