Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale among regions to be affected by planned power blackouts

In the Coastal region, Mombasa County, areas along Likoni–Lunga Lunga Road will be affected.
Various parts of the country, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties, will on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, experience planned power interruptions as Kenya Power conducts routine maintenance on its distribution network.
In a notice, the company announced that the scheduled outage will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in most of the affected areas, with a few regions expected to be without electricity for shorter durations.

In the Nairobi region, parts of Loresho will be affected, including the University of Nairobi, Kaumoni area, Loresho Primary and Secondary Schools, Shamba Café and adjacent customers.
Also impacted will be sections of Nairobi West, including Paa Crescent, ICC Church, Muthaiti Avenue, Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi West Shopping Centre, parts of Nairobi West, Niamey Road, Gandhi Avenue, Kodi Road, Summerdale Hotel, Swara Crescent, Kifaru Crescent, Msufu Road, part of Muhoho Avenue, Sumba Road, Rio Hotel, Kisauni Road, Nairobi West Hospital, Madaraka Roundabout and surrounding areas.
Along Lang’ata Road, the outage will affect parts of the main road, Galleria Mall, Muiri Lane, Muiri Close, MC Frys, Ola Petrol Station, Bogani East, Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), part of Magadi Road and nearby customers.
In the Coastal region, Mombasa County, areas along Likoni–Lunga Lunga Road will be affected. These include Pentagon, Rima, Tenant Purchase, Shika Adabu, Kibaki Estate, Bububu, Shonda Maweni, Ujamaa, Checkpoint, Inspiration, Slaughterhouse, Jara, Mwanaguvuze, Kona Mpya, Kona Mbaya and surrounding areas.
In Kilifi County, parts of Kanamai and Kikamabala will also be affected. Among the locations to go dark are Baharini Primary, Baran Kenya Kikamabala, Kadzengo, Kitchen King, My Pasta, Pwani Oil Ltd, Mega Courture, Afriware EPZ, Ndune Fish Farm, Revital EPZ, Tiger Packaging, Vipingo Industries, Vipingo Service Station, Majlis Msumarini, Safepak Ltd, Pride Industries, Total Amkeni, Madina Madrassa Center, Jallaram Plastics, Eagol Petrol Station, Awali Estate, Palmridge, Vipingo Golf Stage, Swafaa Academy, Shariani Center, Shariani kwa Pope, Flamboyant Ltd and surrounding customers.
Kwale County will experience a shorter outage from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in the areas of Shamu and Mabokoni. Affected institutions and neighbourhoods include Mabokoni, Mbuwani, Mwanjamba, the Technical University of Mombasa, Mwapala and nearby customers.
Residents in the Central Rift region will also experience power outages. Parts of Nakuru County, including Sekenani and Talek, will be without electricity between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The blackout will affect Nkoilale Market, Sekenani Market, hotels along the Sekenani–Talek stretch, Talek Market and adjacent customers.
The Mt Kenya region will also be hit by the outage, specifically in Gachungu and Katambararia. Kenya Power stated that Maria Njoki area, Karogo Primary, Karumiri Primary School, Karurumo Catholic, Matururi Primary School and nearby homes and businesses will be affected from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In the North Rift, the Chebarbar area will also experience the blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Meanwhile, in South Nyanza, residents in parts of Homa Bay County, specifically Mbita and Rusinga, should prepare for a full-day outage. Affected areas include Koduogo Market, Kodiera Market, Ogongo Market, Koyani, Waondo, Luanda, Mbita, Rusinga and surrounding regions.
Kenya Power has urged customers to plan accordingly and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
“We regret the inconvenience caused by the interruption, which is part of our continued efforts to upgrade and maintain a more stable and reliable power supply,” the company said.
