Vocal Africa piles pressure on Ruto over abduction of Mwabili Mwagodi in Tanzania

Hussein particularly demanded that the government come out to publicly address the matter of the activist by assuring his family about his safety and whereabouts.
Human rights organisation Vocal Africa on Saturday piled pressure on President William Ruto to intervene in having activist Mwabili Mwagodi unconditionally released from captivity in Tanzania.
Speaking to the Eastleigh Voice after Mwagodi's family was turned away from seeking assistance at Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi, Hussein Khalid expressed utmost shock that the police and other authorities were unwilling to help the family follow up on the matter of the activist who was reportedly abducted in Dar es Salaam.

"This is unacceptable. We're demanding that President William Ruto's government allow Mwagodi's family to have legal representation in this matter and their legal representatives be given audience," demanded Hussein.
Hussein particularly demanded that the government come out to publicly address the matter of the activist by assuring his family about his safety and whereabouts.
"The whereabouts and safety of Mwagodi must be a priority and the biggest concern to the government. The family and all Kenyans want to be assured that the activist is safe and unharmed," he said.
Vocal Africa is also demanding that Tanzania's government be pressured to respect human rights and be condemned over its cross-border cooperation with its East African neighbours in committing human rights crimes.
"The Tanzanian government should be called over the continuous violation of human rights. We demand that Kenya's Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs work on the immediate release of Mwagodi and inform the public of its position in this matter," Hussein added..
Hussein's tough stance on the matter comes even as the family of Mwagodi made demands to the Kenyan and Tanzanian governments for answers about his disappearance.
Led by his sister, Isabella Kituri, the family has urged the two governments to find Mwagodi, who was reportedly abducted by unknown individuals while working in Tanzania.
While detailing how she had learned of her brother's disappearance, Kituri revealed that they had been informed that Mwagodihad vanished without ta race and that attempts to find him had been unsuccessful.
She added that her fears had deepened because her brother was a vocal critic of President Ruto's church fundraising missions and had mobilised Gen Z movements through his social media platforms.
"Mwagodi served a just cause to defend the integrity of the church. He was just doing his civic duty as a normal Kenyan," a visibly emotional Kituri stated.
"If there is anything else that he did, he should just be produced through the legal justice system," she added.
