Moses Kuria resigns as President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor

In a post on X on Tuesday evening, Moses Kuria said he had met President William Ruto, who had “graciously accepted” his decision to exit government.

Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, Moses Kuria, has resigned from government, ending his three-year stint in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a post on X on Tuesday evening, Kuria said he had met President Ruto, who had “graciously accepted” his decision to exit government.

“This evening I have met my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” he wrote.

Kuria, a former Gatundu South MP, thanked Ruto for the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, and most recently as Senior Economic Advisor.

“I thank President Ruto for having allowed me to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months, and Senior Economic Advisor for the last 10 months,” he said.

He noted that he was leaving to focus on personal interests but expressed pride in his contributions to the Kenya Kwanza administration’s economic agenda.

“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 electoral platform. Long live Kenya,” he said.

Kuria was appointed as a senior advisor to the Council of Economic Advisors on August 23, 2024. At the time, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, said the appointment was meant to strengthen the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Agenda through a broad-based government framework.

Kuria has in recent weeks also expressed support for former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s return to the Jubilee Party leadership, describing the development as crucial in calming the country’s rising political temperatures.

“Congratulations, my senior brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta, for winning back control of the Jubilee Party,” Kuria said in a statement posted on X last Thursday.

“At a time when there is a competition to burn Kenya through escalation, emotions, and divisions, the Jubilee Party under your stewardship has a major role to play in keeping Kenya safe. The future is luminous.”

The High Court recently delivered a major legal victory to the former President by upholding the resolutions of the Jubilee Party’s Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) held in May 2023.

The court ruling formally reinstated Uhuru as party leader, ending a nearly two-year-long leadership dispute and reconstituting the party’s top leadership.

The judgment confirmed Saitoti Torome as the party’s National Chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary-General, effectively sidelining the rival faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege.

Chege, who had at one point declared herself Jubilee leader, suffered a further blow when outgoing chairman Nelson Dzuya withdrew support for her faction and filed a consent in court recognising the legitimacy of the May 2023 SNDC resolutions.

Dzuya, who had previously supported the Kega-led wing, switched allegiance in March 2025, marking a dramatic end to the party’s internal feud.
