Samidoh tells court Jeff Mwathi was likely pushed from Kasarani apartment window

Samidoh, a key witness in the case, denied that Mwathi was ever suicidal and dismissed claims of any animosity between himself and fellow musician DJ Fatxo, the prime suspect.

Popular Mugithi artist Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, better known as Samidoh, has told an inquest court that the death of his nephew, Jeff Mwathi, in 2023 was not natural and that he was likely pushed through a window at an apartment in Kasarani.

Testifying before Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi on Monday, Samidoh said he wants the court to determine exactly how Mwathi died.

The artist, a key witness in the case, denied that Mwathi had ever been suicidal or had attempted to take his own life.

He also dismissed claims of any animosity between himself and fellow musician Lawrence Njuguna, popularly known as DJ Fatxo — the prime suspect in the case.

"I have no bad blood with DJ Fatxo. We come from Nyandarua County, and he is a performing artist like me, so there is no competition between us," Samidoh told the court.

Business relationship

He revealed that Mwathi and DJ Fatxo had a business relationship and that he had seen them together a few months before Mwathi’s death.

Samidoh said he had even performed alongside DJ Fatxo and supported his work in the music industry.

"I have supported the DJ in the industry and have no interest in destroying him. Someone lost a life, and that’s what I want to know — why… he was very young to die," he added.

Samidoh recounted that upon learning of his nephew’s death, he immediately went to the scene. He told the court that he arrived at the police station at 8 a.m., while DJ Fatxo reported at 11 a.m.

"I only want to know how Jeff, so young and promising, died mysteriously at DJ Fatxo’s apartment," he said.

Body found outside apartment

Earlier, a witness had told the court how he had found Mwathi’s body lying outside Redwood Apartments, prompting police investigations.

Security guard George Gitau Kamau testified that he reported for duty at approximately 6:10 pm and was joined shortly thereafter by his colleague, Abdalla.

Kamau, who had worked at the apartments for three years, said that at around 3:00 am, he conducted a routine patrol before returning to the security room.

"Between 5:00 am and 6:00 am, I heard a loud thud, like something heavy had fallen," Kamau recalled.

He said the scene was roughly five metres from the gate. Upon checking, he found the body of a young man on the ground.

"He had a cracked head, and his trousers were pulled down to his knees, leaving him naked," Kamau said.

He immediately alerted the caretaker, who then called the manager and later the police. Kamau added that he had not heard any noise or argument from the apartments that night.
