South Coast Pirates Rugby Club have strengthened their backline ahead of the 2025/26 KRU Championship season by signing Brian Maina Alukhava from neighbours TUM Marines.

The Diani-based side confirmed the new addition via their official channels, highlighting his attributes and potential impact: “We are thrilled to welcome Brian Maina Alukhava from TUM Marines. At 6.0ft tall and weighing 80kg, he offers us options in the 13 and 14 positions. A Shimba Hills High School alumnus from Bukura, Kakamega County, Brian brings pace, power, and flair to our setup.”

Alukhava’s signing is a key reinforcement as the Pirates look to bounce back immediately after their relegation from the Kenya Cup. The coastal outfit, alongside Mwamba RFC, dropped back to the second tier after just one season in the country’s top flight.

In a statement, the club noted: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Byron Omondi from TUM Marines. The versatile forward can feature as a lock or flanker. Standing at 179 cm and weighing 83 kg, Omondi is an alumnus of Ringa Boys High School and hails from Muhoroni, Kisumu County.”

Determined to mount a strong promotion charge, the Pirates have been active in player recruitment and technical strengthening.

Recently, the club unveiled former Kenya Harlequin and national team stalwart Tony Khadambi as their new head coach. Khadambi has already set his sights on restoring the team to top-tier rugby, banking on his extensive playing and coaching expertise.

The Pirates will kick off their Championship campaign at home on November 16 against newly promoted Kisii RFC. The clash is expected to provide an early glimpse of their second-tier promotion credentials.
