Christie 7s opens the 2024 National 7s series at RFUEA Grounds

The 2024 National 7s Series rugby tournament begins tomorrow, July 27–28, 2024, with the prestigious 57th edition of the Christie 7s, held at the RFUEA Grounds located on Gong Road, Nairobi.

Christie is a Kenyan rugby tournament run by the National Sevens Circuit (NSC). The tournament bears the name of Alex, the former chairman of Harlequins. Since 1964, the Christie Sevens has been the longest-running tournament, held annually.

Ahead of the tournament, the Christie 7s, the opening leg of the 2024 National 7s Circuit, has announced its pools.

In Pool A, Nondescripts, Homeboyz Rugby, and Impala RFC form a group with KCB Rugby, the defending champions of both the Circuit and Christie 7s.

Pool B now includes Kabras RFC, the 2017 7s champions. The team, which also won the Christie 7s in 2016 and 2017, will compete against Nakuru RFC, Kisumu RFC, and Catholic Monks in the same pool.

Pool C hosts the Kenya Harlequins, Kenya University`s Blak Blad, Strathmore Leos, and Daystar Falcons.

The final pool, Pool D, has 2022 Circuit champions, the Menengai Oilers, who will square off with Mwamba RFC, Masinde Muliro, and 2023 Division II winners, the University of Eldoret.

On Saturday, August 3rd, and Sunday, August 4th, Kabras RFC, the 2017 7s champions, will host the inaugural event of the second leg of the Kenya Rugby Union 2024 7s Circuit. The Circuit 7s will take place at the ASK Kakamega Showground for the second time since 2022.

The Tisap 7s, held in Eldoret last year, have given way to the KRU 7s. The decision follows criticism of the Tisap 7s for issues such as a sub-standard pitch and overall poor preparation.

Eldoret RFC and Moi University Arsonists had won the event bid, but the KRU 7s will now take their place in response to these concerns.
