The Kenyan rugby community is mourning the loss of former Kenya international George Obonyo Adul, who passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in Mombasa.

Ray Dawa, a former player and Chair of Mombasa Sports Club, announced that Adul will be laid to rest on January 5, 2024, at their farm in Mtwapa, Kilifi. Dawa emphasized the family's financial challenges, appealing for support to settle the hospital bills and cover the funeral expenses, totaling Ksh5 million.

"He faced a health challenge and was hospitalized, accumulating a hospital bill of Sh4 million. We are now organizing a fitting sendoff," Dawa stated, as reported by The Nation.

Adul played a crucial role in the 1990 Kenya Cup-winning Mean Machine squad and contributed to Mombasa RFC's 1997 Enterprise Cup victory. Renowned for his strategic play at fullback and powerful kicking, Adul represented Kenya Sevens in 1992 and Kenya Simbas from 1992 to 1993.

Having developed his rugby skills at the prestigious Lenana School, Adul pursued Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nairobi, graduating in 1993.

Adul's passing comes four months after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) announced the death of Kenya Lionesses player Bernadette Olesia. Olesia passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, while undergoing treatment in the hospital, as reported by The Star.

She was associated with the Shamas Rugby Foundation and played club rugby for the Northern Suburbs Ladies Team and Shamas Rugby Foundation.
