Senator Cherargei slams Trans Nzoia MCAs for rolling out red carpet for Natembeya amid graft charges
Cherargei tore into the Trans Nzoia MCAs, accusing them of normalising corruption and foregoing their oversight role by warmly receiving Natembeya at the Kisumu International Airport, labelling their actions as a "national embarrassment".
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has condemned Trans Nzoia MCAs for warmly welcoming Governor George Natembeya in Kisumu on Monday, ahead of his tour of the region, despite the county boss having been charged just last week in a Sh3 million corruption case.
Natembeya was charged last Tuesday with counts of conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property, following allegations of irregular financial dealings involving millions of shillings obtained through companies that conducted business with the Trans Nzoia County Government.

He was subsequently granted a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 and barred from accessing county offices for the next 60 days and leaving Kenya without court approval.
In a statement on X on Monday, Cherargei tore into the Trans Nzoia MCAs, accusing them of normalising corruption and foregoing their oversight role by warmly receiving Natembeya at the Kisumu International Airport, labelling their actions as a "national embarrassment".
He further urged the MCAs to institute impeachment proceedings against Natembeya for his alleged misuse of county funds and failure to uphold good governance.
"The Trans Nzoia County MCAs are a national embarrassment. Instead of beginning impeachment proceedings against Governor Natembeya over poor development, corruption and poor governance, they are busy rolling out the red carpet for him," he said.
"Aa country we must choose either to use constitutional accountability mechanisms or normalise corruption."
This is not the first time that Cherargei has called for Natembeya's impeachment over alleged poor governance. Last month, the Nandi Senator accused Natembeya of preaching divisive politics ahead of the 2027 polls.
"Governor Natembeya should be impeached for promoting ethnic tensions, underdevelopment, and alleged corruption. These are impeachable offences under the Constitution of Kenya 2010, as they violate Articles 10, 27, 73, 74, 75, and 174," he said then.
After leaving the airport, Natembeya's procession made its way through several towns in Western Kenya before heading to his home in Kitale. This was the first time he appeared in public following his arraignment.
Speaking in Kakamega, Natembeya urged residents to fight for their development agenda, urging them not to allow the government to overlook the region in such critical affairs.
"It can't be that a community with so many educated people still struggles to secure government jobs. It is unfortunate that when they are recruiting police, others arrive in lorries while we are carried in wheelbarrows," Natembeya said.
He further stated that his arrest and subsequent arraignment were politically motivated since he has been opposing the ruling regime.
