KDF hands over Burgavo Forward Operation Base to Somali National Army

The area neighbouring the Kenyan coastal region was liberated from Al-Shabab by ATMIS and Somali Security Forces in 2015.
The sector two Kenya Defence Forces serving in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) on Wednesday officially handed over the Burgavo Forward Operation Base, which is located near the Kenyan coastal region, to the Somali National Armed Forces in Jubaland.
ATMIS military chief engineer Col Suleiman Ibrahim assured the Somali National Army Forces of the necessary support they require as they assume their security responsibility to safeguard the territories under the Burgavo Forward Operation Base.

He commended the sector two ATMIS KDF troops for their dedication and partnership with the Somali National Army Forces in ensuring peace and stability in Jubaland.
Gen.Mohamed Ibrahim Farah, District Commissioner for the Badhadhe region, who spoke during the handing-over ceremony, also appreciated the KDF troops for their sacrifice and commitment to restoring regional stability.
He encouraged the Somali National Army Forces to further build the achievements made by the outgoing KDF forces.
The handing-over ceremony was attended by the ATMIS sector two commanders, Col. Meshack Kishoyian, the outgoing Burgavo Forward Base commander Maj. Charles Kaara, and the incoming Base commander Maj.Muktar Mohamed of the Somali National Army and representatives from ATMIS, Somali National Army Forces and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia.
