Musonye urges FKF to prioritize Harambee Stars' performance for CHAN success

Nicholas Musonye, Chairman of the CHAN Local Organising Committee, has urged the FKF to prioritise Harambee Stars' preparation for the tournament, warning that poor performance could dampen fan interest and the event's success.

Nicholas Musonye, the Chairman of the CHAN Local Organising Committee, has called on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to ensure Harambee Stars are well-prepared for the upcoming tournament.

He emphasized that the team's performance will be crucial in attracting fans and boosting attendance, warning that poor results could significantly impact the event's success.

Musonye urged FKF to prioritize hiring the best coach, assembling the strongest squad, and providing adequate motivation to the players.

"If they are eliminated in the first round, they will have killed the competition," he cautioned, adding that Kenya should aim for at least a semifinal spot to keep fans engaged.

Musonye also stressed on the need to have the best team including the coach and urged the FKF to see to it that they have secured nothing but the best.

"As much as we are struggling to complete the infrastructure, FKF must get the best coach and the best players and give them enough motivation to do well. If they are eliminated in the first round, they will have killed the competition,"

He went ahead and highlighted the direct link between performance and fan interest noting that if Harambee Stars performs well on home soils it will attract more fans.

"Even if you open the stadiums for free, if Harambee Stars have been eliminated, no one will come. FKF must ensure the team progresses as far as possible."

Kenya's national team bowed out of the Mapinduzi Cup on 10, 2025 after a 1-0 loss from Zanzibar in their last group match.
