Title race heats up as FKF Premier League reaches halfway mark
With the FKF Premier League season approaching the halfway mark, Kenya Police and Tusker FC are locked in a tight battle at the top, while Gor Mahia and KCB remain within striking distance. Can the law enforcers hold their ground, or will the Brewers reclaim their crown?
As the FKF Premier League season nears its midpoint, the title race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years. With 18 matchweeks played, Kenya Police and Tusker FC are tied at the top, separated only by goal difference. Mid-table teams are fighting to stay relevant, while those at the bottom continue their battle for survival.
Kenya Police: Title Contenders or Pretenders?
Kenya Police have been in formidable form, winning nine of their last ten matches and drawing one. Their recent run has propelled them to the top with 36 points, edging ahead of Tusker on goal difference.

This season, the law enforcers have recorded 10 wins, 6 draws, and just 2 losses, showcasing their ambition to go all the way. Last season, they finished third with 57 points, trailing Gor Mahia and Tusker, who secured the top two spots with 16 and 8-point leads, respectively.
Their resilience was evident in their last outing at Awendo Stadium, where Clinton Kinanga’s late goal sealed a crucial win. As February begins, Kenya Police will host a struggling Sofapaka side at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, aiming to extend their title charge.
Tusker FC: Brewing Up a Challenge
Tusker FC, champions of the 2021/22 season, are determined to reclaim the crown after playing second fiddle to Gor Mahia in recent campaigns. Tied with Kenya Police on 36 points, the Brewers trail only on goal difference—a factor that worked in their favour when they won the league in 2021/22 after finishing level on points with Kakamega Homeboyz.
Tusker’s success has been built on a strong defensive unit and a midfield capable of controlling games. Key players like Ryan Ogam and Decha provide the tactical depth needed to sustain their challenge.
Having secured 11 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses, the Brewers head into their next fixture against KCB on February 2 with momentum following a narrow 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars.
Gor Mahia and KCB Lurking in the Shadows
Traditional giants Gor Mahia are not far behind, keeping a close eye on the leaders. Despite struggling with consistency earlier in the season, they are now within touching distance of the top.
Gor Mahia team manager Victor Nyaoro remains optimistic, comparing the league to a marathon rather than a sprint. “You can command the race early but get outrun towards the end. We are watching the table leaders keenly,” he told Citizen.
Meanwhile, KCB has hovered around the upper half of the table, showing promise but struggling with consistency. They remain hopeful of capitalising on any slip-ups from the leading teams.
Gor Mahia will take on relegation-threatened Posta Rangers on February 1, aiming to close the gap, while KCB faces a tough test against Tusker on February 2.
With the season at its halfway mark, the title race remains wide open. Will Kenya Police maintain their charge, or will Tusker, Gor Mahia, and KCB turn the tide in the coming weeks?
