Ongwae, Wamukota return as Kenya Morans name final squad for FIBA Afrobasket qualifiers

Kenya Morans head coach Cliff Owuor has named his final squad for the crucial 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers in Libya. The team sees the return of key players, including Tylor Ongwae and Bush Wamukota, as they prepare for a tough battle in Group E.
Kenya Morans head coach Cliff Owuor has named his final 12-man squad for the decisive round of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers, set to take place in Tripoli, Libya, from 21-23 February.
The squad features three changes from the team that competed in the first round of qualifiers in Tunisia last year. Among the notable inclusions is power forward Tylor Ongwae, who is set to make his first FIBA appearance for Kenya since January 2022. Ongwae, who now plays for KBF defending champions Nairobi City Thunder, had initially retired from international duty after the 2021 Afrobasket tournament but reversed his decision earlier this year.
Also returning to the team is center Bush Wamukota, who missed last year’s qualifiers. The 31-year-old last played for Morans during the FIBA AfroCan tournament two years ago, where he averaged six points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across four games.
KPA’s Salim Kisilu is the only new call-up and is set to make his major tournament debut. Dropping out of last year’s squad are Faheem Juma, Ariel Ortega, and Ariel Okal, who is unavailable due to compassionate reasons.
The Morans are scheduled to depart this week ahead of their opening match against Tunisia on Friday at 1600 EAT. They will then face Angola on Saturday and Guinea on Sunday.
