Tusker FC bolsters squad with Ian Simiyu and Luke Namanda signings

Tusker FC has made key moves in the transfer window, securing the services of promising winger Ian Simiyu and welcoming back experienced attacker Luke Namanda.

Tusker FC has strengthened its squad with the acquisition of highly-rated winger Ian Simiyu from Nzoia Sugar and the return of experienced attacker Luke Namanda from AFC Leopards. The moves come as the club aims to enhance its attacking options in the FKF Premier League and the MozzartBet Cup, while also parting ways with Ugandan winger John Byamukama after two seasons.

Simiyu, 22, arrives at Ruaraka on a two-year deal after a stellar half-season in the National Super League (NSL), where he finished as the competition’s top scorer with 13 goals and six assists. The St. Anthony Boys Kitale alumnus is renowned for his blistering pace, technical ability, and creativity, making him a constant threat to opposing defences.

Head coach Charles Okere expressed confidence in Simiyu’s potential to make an immediate impact.

“He is a player that we have keenly followed throughout the first leg of the NSL, and we are optimistic that he brings with him a lot of potential. We know that he has what can spur our forward line and will bring the necessary competition in the team,” Okere stated.

Simiyu’s versatility allows him to operate on both wings and in a central attacking role. His impressive goal-scoring record last season underlines his ability, and Tusker believes his addition will provide a significant boost as they push for silverware.

“I am really excited to join Tusker FC because this is a big step in my career. This is a winning team, and the mentality is quite brilliant. When we had a conversation with the coach, I was immediately sold on the project, and the fact that he sees me as an integral member of his team gave me more confidence. I am excited for what lies ahead,” Simiyu remarked.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Namanda returns to Tusker FC after spells with Musanze in Rwanda and AFC Leopards. He previously played a key role in Tusker’s FKF Premier League title-winning campaign in 2020 before moving to Rwanda in 2021.

The club welcomed his return, with Okere highlighting his experience as a valuable asset.

“We are delighted to welcome Luke back to Tusker FC. He’s a player with great potential, and his previous experience with us will be valuable. We believe his addition will give us a boost as we continue to push for success in the league and other competitions,” read a statement on Tusker’s official site.

Namanda, who has also featured for West Kenya Sugar, Elburgon, Timsales, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Nzoia Sugar, expressed his excitement at rejoining the Brewers.

“It feels great to be back at Tusker FC. I’ve always felt at home here, and I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve our goals. When I left, I was a league champion. I am coming back, and I hope I can return with the same touch and win trophies. I can’t wait to get started and give my best for the fans and the club,” Namanda stated.

While reinforcing their squad, Tusker also bid farewell to Ugandan winger John Byamukama after two seasons at the club. The club acknowledged his contributions and wished him well in his next chapter.

“Byamukama has been with the club for two seasons and, during his time with the team, made significant contributions both on and off the pitch. We are grateful for the dedication he showed during his tenure with us,” the club noted in an official statement.

The Brewers, currently second in the FKF Premier League standings with 39 points, two behind leaders Kenya Police FC, are making strategic moves to strengthen their squad as they push for domestic honours.
