Talanta Hela Stadium to be Kenya's largest sports arena upon completion
The construction of this stadium marks a new history as it has been 45 years since Kenya built a stadium of such magnitude.
One year and 10 days down the line, Kenya’s most iconic sports arena, Talanta Hela Stadium whose construction at Jamhuri Park began on March 1, 2024, is now 40 per cent complete with the government aiming to finish it by the end of the year.
This was confirmed during a Cabinet meeting today (Tuesday). The Cabinet was briefed on the progress of the construction of the stadium which will accommodate a maximum of 60,000 seaters.

“Once finished, the 60,000-seater stadium will be Kenya’s largest, with the government aiming to complete it by the end of this year,” reads a Cabinet dispatch.
The construction of this stadium marks a new history as it has been 45 years since Kenya built a stadium of such magnitude, with Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani being the most recent iconic stadium.
“This underscores its commitment to modernising sports infrastructure. The last time a stadium of this magnitude was built in Kenya was 45 years ago - Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, making Talanta Hela a landmark achievement in the country’s sporting history,” the dispatch says.
The facility is expected to serve as one of the venues for the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which will be played in East Africa, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as the co-hosts.
