Shujaa and Lionesses learn pool opponents for high-stakes LA Sevens play-offs

Kenya’s Shujaa and Lionesses have been drawn into tough pools ahead of the promotion/relegation play-offs at the 2025 Los Angeles Sevens, where both teams will be fighting to secure spots in next season’s HSBC SVNS Series.
Shujaa and Kenya Lionesses have learned their pool opponents for the high-stakes promotion/relegation play-offs at the 2025 Los Angeles Sevens, set for May 3–5.
Shujaa, Kenya’s men’s national sevens team, finished ninth in the 2024–25 HSBC SVNS Series. They will compete in Pool A against 2025 HSBC Challenger Series winners Portugal, Samoa, and the USA. While Samoa placed fourth in the Challenger Series, the USA were ranked 12th—last—in the SVNS Series.
Pool B of the men’s play-offs features Canada, Germany, Ireland, and Uruguay. Ireland and Uruguay finished 10th and 11th respectively in the 2024–25 SVNS Series, while Germany and Canada placed second and third in the Challenger Series.

In the women’s competition, the Kenya Lionesses—2025 HSBC Challenger Series champions—will compete in Pool A against Brazil, Colombia, and Spain. Brazil and Spain were ranked ninth and 12th respectively in the 2024–25 SVNS Series, while Colombia finished fourth in the Challenger Series.
Pool B in the women’s category includes Argentina, China, Ireland, and South Africa. Argentina and South Africa were second and third in the Challenger Series, while China and Ireland placed 10th and 11th respectively in the SVNS Series.
