Kibera Soccer crowned 2025 FKF Women’s Cup champions

Kibera Soccer Women FC stunned favourites Vihiga Queens with a dramatic last-minute winner to lift their first-ever FKF Women’s Cup title, sealing a 1-0 victory in Saturday’s final at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

Kibera Soccer Women FC secured a historic 1-0 victory over Vihiga Queens FC to win the 2025 FKF Women’s Cup final, played at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru, on Saturday, June 28.

In a tense and tightly contested encounter, Stella Adhiambo emerged as the hero for Kibera, scoring the decisive goal at the death to hand her side their first-ever FKF Women’s Cup title. Both teams had battled evenly through the first half, with few clear cut chances and solid defensive displays on both ends.

Vihiga Queens, led by tournament top scorer Diana Cherono, pressed hard throughout the match but were repeatedly denied by Kibera goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo, whose outstanding performance earned her the Golden Glove award.

The match looked destined for extra time until Adhiambo struck in the final moments, sealing a dramatic win and sparking jubilant celebrations from the Nairobi-based side. Cherono, who scored four goals in the tournament, claimed the Golden Boot despite her team falling short in the final.

The 2025 FKF Women’s Cup final had originally been scheduled for June 14 but was postponed to allow the national team, Harambee Starlets, to participate in the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship in Tanzania.

Kibera Soccer Women reached the final after a strong campaign, including a 2-0 semifinal win over league champions Kenya Police Bullets and a memorable penalty shootout victory over defending cup holders Ulinzi Starlets in the quarterfinals.

Vihiga Queens, four-time national league champions, earned their place in the final with a 2-1 win over Bungoma Queens. Despite their experience and pedigree, they were unable to overcome a determined Kibera side on the day.
