CAF delegation begins final inspection tour in Kenya ahead of CHAN 2024

With just weeks to the tournament's kickoff, CAF officials are in Kenya to assess the country’s readiness to co-host CHAN 2025, inspecting key venues and holding crucial stakeholder meetings.

With just weeks to go before the African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off, a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has touched down in Kenya for a final round of inspections and stakeholder consultations.

The delegation arrived on Thursday and will be in the country until July 6, evaluating Kenya’s preparedness to co-host the regional tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Their itinerary includes visits to key sports facilities in Nairobi notably the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and the Nyayo National Stadium.

This final tour marks a critical checkpoint in Kenya’s bid to deliver a successful CHAN competition, the first major CAF tournament it will host under the East African joint bid known as “Pamoja.”

As part of their mission, the CAF officials are holding a series of consultative meetings with the CHAN-AFCON Multi-Agency Team and the national Project Oversight Council.

These sessions bring together players from across government ministries, infrastructure departments, and security agencies to align efforts and track progress across various operational fronts from stadium readiness and transport systems to accommodation, media services, and emergency response protocols.

Yesterday, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Internal Security highlighted the country's readiness efforts in a statement posted on social media. He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to delivering a secure and efficiently managed tournament, noting that security planning and inter-agency coordination were well underway.

This visit is expected to shape the final set of recommendations by CAF as the clock ticks toward the August kickoff, with Kenya keen to prove its capability on the continental football stage.
