Michael Olunga joins Al Arabi SC on two-year deal

Kenyan striker and Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has signed a two-year deal with Qatari side Al Arabi SC, ending his successful three-year stint at Al-Duhail. The 31-year-old joins the seven-time league champions as their newest forward, becoming the second Kenyan to play for the club after Dennis Oliech.

Kenyan striker and Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has completed a move to Qatari side Al Arabi Sports Club on a two-year deal, marking a new chapter in his accomplished career in the Middle East.

“Al Arabi Sports Club is pleased to announce the signing of Kenyan striker Michael Olunga on a two-year contract,” the club confirmed.

Olunga joins the seven-time Qatar Stars League champions from Al-Duhail SC, where he has spent the last three years.

At his official unveiling at Al Arabi SC, the number 14 Kenyan striker Michael Olunga confidently addressed the fans, saying, “Al Arabi fans, Olunga is here.”

The 31-year-old’s contract with Al-Duhail expired in May, paving the way for the high-profile switch.

During his time at Al-Duhail, Olunga etched his name in the club's history books, becoming their all-time top scorer with 130 goals. His remarkable tally helped the club lift the Qatar Stars League title in the 2022–2023 season, as well as the Emir of Qatar Cup in 2022.

The move to Al Arabi makes Olunga the second Kenyan to don the club’s colors, following in the footsteps of former national team captain Dennis Oliech, who played for the Doha-based side 22 years ago.

Al Arabi, who boast nine Emir of Qatar Cup titles, most recently in the 2022–2023 season last won the Qatar Stars League in the 1996–1997 campaign.

The club plays its home matches at the 44,400-seater Al Thumama Stadium, one of the venues used during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Olunga’s transfer adds experience and firepower to the Al Arabi frontline as they look to reclaim their place among Qatar’s elite football clubs.
