All systems go as KRU announces plans for 27th edition of Safari 7s

The 2025 Safari Sevens promises high-quality rugby alongside a family-centred festival atmosphere, cementing its place as Africa’s premier sevens tournament.
The build-up to the 27th edition of the Safari Sevens gathered momentum on Friday as the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) unveiled plans for the tournament, which will run from October 10–12, 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium.
KRU Vice Chairman Moses Ndale highlighted the tournament’s enduring legacy, praising the event’s growth over the years and urging fans to embrace it as more than just rugby.

“Safari Sevens is not just a competition, it’s an experience. Come with your families, bring your children, and let them enjoy the game. Having strong partners on board lifts the tournament to the next level, and this year we want it to be bigger and better than ever,” Ndale said.
On the pitch, Shujaa captain Samuel Asati underlined the importance of Safari Sevens as a platform for Kenya’s men’s team to test new talent and refine systems under the technical bench.
“Coming off the National Sevens Circuit, we’ve integrated some new boys into the squad. Safari Sevens will give them the chance to show what they can do, and I believe they’ll perform well,” he noted.
Kenya Lionesses skipper Sheila Chajira said her team has been hard at work in preparation for the home tournament, which will feature some of the top women’s sides globally.
“We’ve been in camp for six weeks, including joint sessions with the Morans. The new players selected from the Sevens Circuit have shown a lot of fire, and we’re eager to see them shine on this stage,” she said.
Providing tournament details, KRU Competitions Administrator Kevin Adeyembo confirmed Nyayo Stadium as the host venue and outlined the competition structure.
“This year we’ll have 20 teams, 12 men’s and 8 women’s. The men will play in three pools of four, while the women will have two pools of four. Games begin Friday afternoon with all teams in action, before knockouts and finals on Sunday,” he explained.
The men’s category will feature teams such as French Renegades, UK 7s Select, Shogun, Uganda, and hosts Shujaa, while the women’s side will see action from Uganda, Belgium, Spain, UNESCO, and the Lionesses.
